TONIGHT

Many thanks to all who helped prepare for tonight's event.  We especially thank Susan Rittermann for coordinating the set-up and all those who helped get the room ready.  Thanks go to Pam Kutz for getting us the balloons and the beautiful cake (compliments of J&P Kake Korner in Laurel) donated.  And, thank you to the Boy Scout Troop representatives here to assist in the transition of many of our second year Webelos into the Boy Scouting Program.

If you forgot your Friends of Scouting pledge card, more are available tonight.  Please place all pledges in the boxes located near the exits.  Remember, the Friends of Scouting pledges cover many of the support activities for our Pack.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Next weekend we will continue our Scouting for Food drive meeting at Glen Mar Church at 9:30.  Parents will need to drive along as the boys collect the food.  Jack Speicher will be coordinating this activity.  Expect a big response as we continue our community efforts to help the needy.

Re-registration is due by March 17.  Please be advised, that Pack 495 will NOT hold our annual School Night for Scouting next fall.  Instead, we will accept registrations by word of mouth and dens will be limited to 8 boys (MAX).  Six may be the limit in Tiger dens.  We will also have a deadline for fall registration.

The Pinewood Derby is fast approaching and the Pinewood Derby Planning Committee is already in full swing to provide another fine event.  Every boy should have received his car kit from his den leader.  Included was an important information sheet with details of Pack 495's running of the race including a schedule of starting times.  Remember!  This year all cars are to be registered the night before the race!  Each den should have a representative to assist with registration (March 24) and the race (March 25).  We will have a snack bar at the race and would like families to bring some (around a  dozen) individually wrapped goodies (preferably home-baked!) for us to sell.  We will also sell hot-dogs and drinks.  Due to the nature of the event, awards (except Pinewood Derby awards) and achievements will not be distributed at this Pack meeting.

Summer Day Camp--We have learned that this summer's Cub Scout daycamp will be held the week of June 26-30.   The theme will be "Invention".   Again, they will be looking for MANY parents to assist.  Pack 495 represents a sizable group at the camp and we MUST provide adequate parent representation or our boys cannot participate.  Also, due to the number of boys we send and the limited number of boys they accept, we need to get registrations in early.  Although the applications are not available yet, it is expected that we will be looking to turn in our applications in mid-March. When filling out your registration forms, PLEASE be certain that every item is addressed.  Otherwise, your application will be rejected and your son may not get into the camp.

PAST EVENTS

Scout Sunday at Emory United Methodist was well attended.  Of the 65 or so boys who attended with their families, eleven participated in the service acting as ushers, readers and dog handlers.  The congregation was pleased to see so many of us there and provided a nice treat of donut holes and coffee fellowship after the wonderful service.   Pastor Moore knows how important scouting can be in the life of a child and to remind us of the great things we can achieve has made a request for an autographed photograph of President Gerald Ford. As a Boy Scout, President Ford earned his Eagle Rank.

FAREWELL

Congratulations and best wishes to all of our second year webelos!

PACK CLASS B T-SHIRTS

Pack 495 t-shirts are available for anyone to purchase.  Cost is $10.  Shirts are available in adult and youth sizes.  These shirts are worn for outdoor “grubby” type activities (like leaf raking!) when the dress (Class A) shirt would be inappropriate and by many of our adults.
